Trancy Review 2026: Features, Pricing and Alternatives

What Trancy is, what the Chrome extension actually does on YouTube and Netflix, how pricing works, and the best Trancy alternatives if you want something else.

Short answer: Trancy is an AI language-learning Chrome extension (and a mobile app) that adds bilingual subtitles to YouTube, Netflix, and a long list of other sites, plus web-page translation, flashcards, and an AI speaking coach. It is the broadest “one tool for everything” option in this category. Choose it if you watch on many platforms or want a phone app. Choose something narrower if you mainly study YouTube and Netflix and care about translation that uses the whole sentence.

Disclosure: we make LingTube, a Trancy alternative. This review is based on Trancy’s own site, pricing page, and Chrome listing as of October 2026. Prices are in USD and may vary by region and tax.

What is Trancy?

Trancy (often searched as “Trancy AI Translator & Dual Subtitles”) is a browser extension for Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave, and Arc, with iOS and Android apps and a Safari add-on under the name Trancy ET. One account covers the extension, the apps, and the learning center.

It belongs in the same group as Language Reactor: take a video you already wanted to watch, put two subtitle languages on it, click words, save them. Trancy then adds web translation, PDF translation, pronunciation scoring, and AI chat on top.

Trancy’s AI bilingual subtitles across YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, Coursera and other platforms

What Trancy does well

  • Many video platforms. YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, HBO, TED, Coursera, Udemy, and others. If you learn from courses as well as shows, this is the main reason to pick it.
  • A real mobile app. Language Reactor and LingTube are desktop extensions. Trancy keeps the habit on a phone.
  • Free bilingual subtitles on those platforms, with unlimited word and sentence translation, web translation, and subtitle downloads on the free plan.
  • Speaking feedback. After you shadow a line, Trancy can score pronunciation. Few extensions in this category do that.
  • Your own API key. Paid plans can use Trancy’s models; you can also plug in your own key and stop worrying about a daily cap.

Where it is weaker

  • So many modes (video, reading, movie, web, PDF, speaking) that the first week is spent finding the control you need.
  • Word lookups default to machine-translation engines you can switch (Google and others). That is cheap and fast. It is also where particles and words with several meanings go wrong, because the engine sees the word without the sentence.
  • Pricing is regional. Public pages talk in plan names more than in a single dollar figure. Older listings put the entry paid plan around $3.49/month; check the price Trancy shows in your account.
  • The brand name collides with Alois Trancy from Black Butler. Search “Trancy extension” rather than just “Trancy” if the results look like anime.

Trancy pricing (October 2026)

Plan What you get
Free Bilingual subtitles on major platforms, unlimited word/sentence translation, web translation, subtitle export, smart sentence splitting on YouTube. Word bookmarks capped (100 words / 50 sentences). Google Translate engine.
Premium AI YouTube transcription (up to 40 videos/day), PDF bilingual translation (up to 2,000 pages/month), unlimited saved words, AI word definitions, AI speaking coach and pronunciation scoring.
Premium + Advanced AI Higher transcription and PDF caps (60 videos/day, 4,000 pages/month), and stronger models (GPT, Claude, Gemini, DeepSeek) with a monthly usage quota.

The free plan is enough if you only want a second subtitle line. AI transcription, the speaking coach, and unlimited saving are the usual reasons to pay.

Trancy alternatives

If Trancy is more tool than you need, or you already tried it and bounced off the interface, these are the realistic substitutes. For a Language Reactor-centered list see 7 Language Reactor alternatives. For a three-way table see Language Reactor vs Trancy vs LingTube.

Tool Best for Platforms Mobile app Free plan Paid from
Trancy Many platforms + a phone app YouTube, Netflix, Disney+, HBO, Coursera, Udemy, TED and more iOS, Android Yes ~$3.49/mo
Language Reactor Classic dual subtitles, plus books and podcasts YouTube, Netflix No Yes $5.95/mo
LingTube AI translation that uses the whole sentence, plus study tools YouTube (incl. Shorts), Netflix No Yes $5.99/mo
Linglass Built-in review on desktop and mobile YouTube, Netflix, HBO Max, Crunchyroll, iQIYI, Viki iOS, Android Yes $7.99/mo
Migaku Flashcards from what you watch YouTube, Netflix and more iOS, Android No ~$10/mo
Immersive Translate Web pages and PDFs, not a study loop YouTube, Netflix, most websites iOS, Android Limited Varies

Language Reactor

The original “learn with Netflix and YouTube” extension. Smaller platform list, no mobile app, a huge user base, and a Pro plan at $5.95/month. Saving words is Pro. Lookups are traditional machine translation.

LingTube

LingTube is the tool we make. It only covers YouTube (including Shorts) and Netflix, in desktop Chrome, in English, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Italian, and Simplified Chinese. The trade is depth: words and phrases are translated with the full sentence so the model can pick the right meaning; auto-generated YouTube captions can be merged back into sentences; missing captions can be transcribed; grammar, CEFR levels (A1–C2), furigana, summaries, timestamped notes, danmaku, and shadowing are in the same player.

Free: dual subtitles, danmaku, and shadowing. Plus $5.99/month, Premium $9.99/month, 20% off yearly, 3 days of Premium for new accounts. There is no mobile app, no Disney+/Prime/Coursera, and no subtitle-file export.

Linglass, Migaku, Immersive Translate

Linglass if you want a review loop and a phone app and you also watch Viki or Crunchyroll. Migaku if Japanese/Korean/Chinese immersion and Anki-style cards are the whole method. Immersive Translate if you actually wanted page translation, not a language-learning workflow.

Who should use Trancy

  • You bounce between Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, and Coursera and refuse to install three extensions.
  • You need the phone app.
  • You want pronunciation scored after shadowing, or AI conversation practice.
  • You are fine with a busy interface in exchange for coverage.

Skip it, or pair it with something else, if you only watch YouTube and Netflix, you care about each word landing in the right meaning, or you want grammar on the line you just heard. That is the LingTube case. If you want the oldest, most-recommended dual-subtitle tool and nothing else, that is Language Reactor.

FAQ

What is Trancy?

An AI language-learning extension and mobile app. It adds bilingual subtitles to video sites, translates web pages, and includes flashcards and an AI speaking coach. Official site: trancy.org.

Is Trancy free?

Yes. The free plan includes bilingual subtitles, unlimited word and sentence translation, web translation, and subtitle export. AI transcription, unlimited saved words, and the speaking coach are Premium.

Does Trancy work on Netflix and YouTube?

Yes, and on several other platforms the others skip. Dual subtitles on Netflix still need a desktop browser. The official Netflix phone app cannot run extensions; use Trancy’s own app if you study on a phone.

What are the best Trancy alternatives?

Language Reactor for a simple dual-subtitle setup on YouTube and Netflix. LingTube if you want full-sentence AI translation and study tools on those two sites. Linglass or Migaku if a mobile app and a review system matter more than extra streaming sites.

How does Trancy compare to Language Reactor?

Trancy has more platforms, a mobile app, AI transcription, and speaking features. Language Reactor is simpler, also covers books and podcasts, and has the larger long-term user base. Neither translates a tapped word with the full sentence the way LingTube does.

Is Trancy the Black Butler character?

That is Alois Trancy, a different thing. Add “extension” or “AI translator” to the search if anime results take over.
